Associate Dean for Research and Research Services NYU's Division of Libraries seeks a creative, strategic, and
user-focused Associate Dean for Research and Research Services to
provide strategic leadership and vision for advancing the Division
of Libraries' support of research across the disciplines at
NYU.? This newly configured position will lead a talented and
diverse group of librarians and specialists in establishing
collaborative strategies to support research in NYU's academic
departments, institutes, centers, and interdisciplinary programs.
This position's portfolio includes the Division of Libraries'
Humanities & Social Sciences, Business & Government
Documents, Sciences, Data Services, and Digital Scholarship
departments as well as the Avery Fisher Center, the Bern Dibner
Library, and supervision of library staff within the Institute of
Fine Arts Library, the Library of the Institute for the Study of
the Ancient World, and the Courant Institute Library.
The Associate Dean for Research and Research Services focuses on
the Division of Libraries' support of the entire research
lifecycle, from discovery to dissemination. Reporting
directly to the Dean of the Division and serving as a member of the
Libraries' Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Dean for Research
and Research Services will clearly articulate, develop, and
implement strategic directions and objectives supporting the
library's commitment to inclusion, diversity, belonging, and
equity.? The Associate Dean for Research and Research
Services will provide leadership and guidance to division faculty
and staff, and form partnerships within and beyond NYU's community
in order to advance NYU's global research agenda.
The Division of Libraries engages with a broad community and

Implementing a strong, coherent Division of Libraries portfolio
of services that support the entire research lifecycle.
Providing strategic leadership and vision for teams of subject
liaisons and functional experts (e.g., data services librarians,
digital scholarship librarians, reference specialists) consisting
of 45+ FTE.
Enhancing the Division of Libraries' existing strengths in data
services, digital scholarship, and liaison librarianship.
Developing programs and services to maximize the research
impact of NYU faculty and students.
Cultivating partnerships with research offices across NYU,
including with Associate Deans for Research, Research Computing,
and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.
Representing the Division of Libraries on NYU-wide
research-focused committees and task forces.
Advocating for and cultivating an environment of inclusion,
diversity, belonging, and equity that provides a welcoming
community and workplace culture that values diversity of thought
Fostering opportunities for professional growth, scholarship,
Inspiring and leading organizational change, building trust,
and nurturing innovation and creativity.
Participating in shared decision making around personnel
actions, resource management, and development of policies for all
library operations and services, as a member of the Division of
Libraries' Senior Leadership Team.
Representing the Division of Libraries locally, nationally, and
internationally on all matters related to research and research
Collaborating with other Senior Leadership Team members to
pursue external funding for the Division of Libraries.
Knowledge of the evolving research landscape in higher
education with an understanding of the research library's role in
Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and foster
Proven leadership, management, and interpersonal skills which
encourage teamwork, collaboration, and relationship-
Demonstrated commitment to the creation of diverse, inclusive
cultures of equity and belonging.
Ability to lead a team in the provision of scalable services
that enable new forms of scholarship and disseminate research
Experience in creating, delivering, and evaluating
user-centered services and programs in support of research.
Strong commitment to staff engagement and development.
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Strong record of scholarly, professional, or creative
Minimum of seven years' relevant professional experience with
increasing administrative responsibility.
Minimum of five years' experience managing and mentoring
A Master's degree in a relevant subject area, e.g., an
ALA-accredited MLS in library or information science. Note: To be
considered for tenure, the successful candidate must have completed
two advanced degrees, one of which must be an ALA-accredited
Second graduate degree.
Experience with initiating grant opportunities and/or working
on grant-funded project

Curator, Associate Curator, or Curator rank, attractive benefits
